In case anyone is wondering here is a breakdown of how much I spent putting this thing together. Depending on what tools you have it may or may not cost you more.

Happ Ultimate Joystick -1, Happ Competition Buttons -10 = $34.58
Microsoft X360 Wireless Controller w/play & charge kit from a pawn shop $14
Wood- didn't use plywood and went with single solid pieces. $9
Soldering iron + solder $9
Plexiglass $14
Hole saw $ 4

Total $84

Tools, Drill, Dremel, Glue Gun and Soldering Iron. I already had a soldering iron and solder but couldn't find either so ended up buying another one.

I could have paid about $23 less if I used the Plywood I had and didn't get the Plexiglass but felt if I was going to do this I was going to do it right. If I could have found my soldering iron I would have saved an additional $9 so hypothetically I could have made the stick for $52.

Who knows I might make another one for the hell of it.

Last pic, it's finished. I applied some artwork and the plexiglass top. Done. When I find my camera I'll post a good pic. Crappy phone camera doesn't do it any justice at all.

so do you think your homemade one is better than a store bought one

i would assume it would be better because you can place things were you want them

@ Answer, Thanks man. I don't know I might do one to post on e-bay or something if I get bored and feel like working on a project or something.

@ Colton, Yeah I think it's better than any that you can buy because it's made with arcade parts, it's wireless and I made it big. That and the joystick and buttons aren't all bunched together. You can't beat that it's Wireless. No company can make a wireless arcade stick. Microsoft won't give anyone the rights.

@ Cougar, Thanks, I hope so too!

If I make another and don't keep it I'll let you know Thinblue. I might make a wired one next so that I can add some LED's so the buttons are lit. I would have to go with wired because if I did wireless it would drain the batteries in no time or I would have to install a battery box for the LED's and who wants to replace batteries to light up some buttons? Not me that's for sure.

Ok now I'm done with the artwork. I'm thinking of modding the buttons so they light up when I press them though. I'm definitely making another one. It's a lot of fun. Not to mention playing on it is pretty cool too.

So you got tired of me kicking you side to side with the standard controller you had to make a custom fighting stick. :-)

Looks amazing bro. I started surfing pawn shop looking for parts to try to make my own. Hoefully I can get it to work.

If you can find one at controller at a pawn shop that's great if not you can always do ebay. They have some for $25 with free shipping

There is also an ebay seller that can get you the joystick and buttons for about $33 delivered. I would have used them but lucked out and found a local place that costs about the same but down the street from my office so I don't have to wait for shipping. If I end up making any more Joysticks I think I'll order the buttons and Joystick online because you have more color options. The shop by my office only has red, white and blue buttons and red, black and blue joysticks. :(

If you plan on going wired you can buy a Madcatz controller from Gamestop, those are actually the easiest to wire for because the buttons share a common ground so you can get by with doing a lot less soldering.

I'm making another one right now that measures
W 9" X L 18" X H 4" I finished sanding it yesterday. It's probably going to be nicer than the first one but I plan on going back to the first one and rounding the corners and edges on that one as well as changing up some buttons.

Here's two of the best tutorials I found.
