Modding my SE Stick

Postby ThinBlueLine05 on Thu Feb 26, 2009 4:47 pm

After playing a series of extremely frustrating ranked matches and losing about half my BP, I've decided that I'm going to mod my arcade stick. I'm better with the 360 controller and I've figured out why:
1. The SE stick has a ball top which I've never been fond of, I much more prefer the bat top sticks.
2. The un-godly square gate. Oh how I hate this piece of shit. While trying to do a QCF I always get stuck in one of the damn corners.

To remedy this situation I'm going to switch out the ball top for a Sanwa LB-30-N Joystick Bat Top ( I'll have to get the adapter as well). I'm also going to put a Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Plate in there. I'm also considering switching out the buttons with some translucent Seimitsu PS-14-KN 30mm Pushbuttons.

Overall this is only going to cost me around $15. The bat top and restrictor plate are $4.95 each and the adapter is only $0.50. Not too bad. I just wish they had translucent bat tops because I really like the look of the Seimitsu bubble tops. I might get one of those too just to see which I like more. The best part about these mods is that there's no soldering required, everything just snaps or screws into place which is a good thing because with my luck, I'd probably end up setting my crotch on fire.

I like the square gate. It takes a little getting used to but It's cool. Of course if I hadn't used a stick in a while it might piss me the hell off.

How is it only costing $15? I paid $26 for 6 clear plunger black body buttons. If you buy 8 Seimitsu buttons like you indicated you're looking at $32 not including shipping.

Can you two post pictures of your arcade sticks and like the links to the stores that sell them? I'm deciding whether or not to buy a 30 dollar madcatz stick (looks like the old atari controller) or buy something along the lines of the Street fighter stick that's $60.

I custom made my sticks. Here is the link to the thread I made about how I got started. You can see pics of the latest pics I made on the 3rd page.

I didn't factor the buttons into the price because I'm not sure I'm going to swap them out.

Here's the one I bought Freako.

Lack of reading comprehension FTL. You clearly said you are still considering the buttons. >.<

Figured I would post this link to modding thread for the Madcatz SE Fightstick. I'm sure some of you fightstick owners can use it if you didn't know about it already.

You guys know you can sell your stick on e-bay for like $160 right?

I actually go the idea to mod my stick while browsing the Shoryuken forums the other day. I saw those prices on ebay too, I don't think I'll sell it though. I bought it so I could use it. Thanks for the modding thread though, it'll definitely come in handy.

*Edit*

Alright I just ordered the parts. I got a white bat top and a green bubble top. I also went ahead and ordered 8 green translucent buttons along with the resrictor plate and adapter. It cost me about $54 which isn't too bad since I can do all the labor myself. I can't wait to get the parts so I can get to work.

Oh man I hope it ends with those parts only. I haven't posted a picture of all the shit I've bought from Lizardlick or locally but man I hope it stops with those buttons and other parts thinblue. If not I think I can already picture you buying more buttons in different colors and then some Sanwa buttons to see how they feel.

No, I don't plan on buying anymore parts unless I decide to build my own stick. It's kind of funny you mention that though because right after I finished placing my order I though about calling to change two of the green buttons to blue ones. I'll be happy with what I bought though.

I know, I know. I thought about clear ones too to replace the ones on the far right. I don't want to just order 2 buttons though.

Especially since shipping for 1 button costs the same as shipping for 7-8 buttons. : /

Dammit, I should have known that looking at the custom sticks topic on Shoryuken would do this. I'm now planning on ordering a drilled out shaft to do some lighting mods. I'm going to try and light the green bubble top and buttons. I'm also going to put some different artwork on there, maybe even a custom paint job. Depending how this one ultimately turns out, I will most likely be making another stick from scratch. Dammit. :x
